4 July 2016 | Sectors | News, Residential, Structural

The Sea Gem is a new two storey house situated in the village of Camber, near Rye with direct access to the beach of Camber Sands. Its completion took place in the Summer of 2011 and has been shortlisted for the RICS Awards 2012.

The brief was to provide a robust and durable structure to withstand the coastal elements and utilise the proximity to the sea and outstanding views. Many different building materials were specified to exploit their inherent qualities. Reinforced concrete cantilevered slabs were adopted to allow the use of wraparound glazing and long span steelwork was used to create generous internal spaces.
