Skinners School – Extension

4 July 2016 | Sectors | Education, News, Structural

The new Sports Hall complex was completed for The Skinners School in Tunbridge Wells in the summer of 2012.

The building’s main sports hall was designed to meet Sport England requirements.  To achieve the required sports hall height, and to meet planning height restrictions, the building was “set-into” the ground.

Shallow 19 metre long tapered circular hollow section trusses create a visually impressive roof structure to the main hall. Due to the extent of sport apparatus and mechanical/electrical plant, the design of the structural steelwork required careful co-ordination with the Architect, M&E Engineer and sports apparatus manufacturer.

Sustainable drainage systems were adopted on the site and special moling techniques were adopted to enable drainage connections through protected tree root zones to the main sewers.
