This was one of the first zero carbon housing schemes in the country to achieve Code for Sustainable Homes Level 6.

The development was undertaken by Willmott Dixon Housing Limited for the Catalyst Housing Group on a brownfield site in Hounslow. The site was on the flight path to Heathrow Airport and part of the site could not be developed as residential.  This area was utilised as a community allotment and the location of the energy centre for the development.

The development was designed to achieve ‘Code for Sustainable Homes Level 6’ and studies were undertaken to determine the most suitable framing solution for the building. The preferred solution was load bearing masonry walls with precast concrete floor panels that provided the permanent formwork and a more aesthetically pleasing soffit. The thermal mass of the building was used to limit overheating and a ground source heat pump was used to pump cool water through the structural slabs to help reduce overheating.
