The Armstrong Guns on Admiralty Pier, Dover

16 January 2020 | Sectors | Heritage

Each weighing 81 tonnes and commissioned in 1882, these guns are the largest muzzle-loaders ever to be made in Britain. We undertook a quinquennial inspection of the structure that supports them, within the scheduled monument on Admiralty Pier, working with architects HMY. The lowest accessible level is a confined space, inter-tidal and with a slim entry opening.
