Babraham Science Park, Cambridge

The site is part of a Research Campus constructed on a 300 acre site in the green belt.  Multiple buildings across the hub of the campus house a variety of laboratory and administration buildings providing world class facilities.

The services provided included the structural and civil design for the new research buildings, ancillary buildings, site wide drainage, flood compensation and highway works. Steel frames utilising concrete composite floors at 1st floor level and above were selected as the most efficient and flexible construction for the various end users.

CTP carried out the detailed civil engineering design and inspection of the construction of a roundabout on the A1306 Cambridge Road to provide new access to the Science Park and designed the new access road linking the roundabout to the Science Park.

Our civil engineering services included:

  • Highway alignment and engineering design in compliance with DMRB and Cambridgeshire County Council Standards and Specification.
  • Co-ordination of design with Road Safety Audit Reports.
  • Co-ordination of design with Utility Company mains and services.
  • Submission and liaison with Cambridgeshire County Council for Technical Approval and Section 278 Agreement to evaluate work to proceed on the public highway.
  • Alignment and Engineering Design of access road to British Standards.
  • Liaison with design team to co-ordinate with Architects, M&E Consultants and Landscaping requirements.
  • Preparation of specification documents to DMRB and NBS.
  • Undertaking site inspections.
  • Design of surface water drainage systems.
  • Design of a new bridge over the River Granta.
  • Design of flood compensation works including a new wetland.
