M&S Flagship Store at Eclipse Park, Maidstone

Construction of the 8000m2 M&S Flagship store at Eclipse Park, near Junction 7 of the M20, Maidstone. The project was constructed by Gallagher Construction and consisted of the new M&S store, associated car park and access road to the rear of the store.

The store is constructed utilising a braced steel frame with composite metal deck and concrete first floor. A complex arrangement of secondary steelwork was required to support the striking ragstone façade.

Cut and polished Kentish ragstone was sourced from Gallagher’s local quarry and was used to clad the ground floor and the entire stair tower to the rear of the building.

The car park adopted sustainable drainage with the car park bays utilising porous block paving, discharging the surface water to the ground via the sub base storage material. This avoided the need to connect any surface water to the public drainage system

CTP designed the access roads and the roundabout, off which the M&S store is located, some years earlier as part of the initial infrastructure works. The access road connects to the A249 at each end of the development.
